Terms of Service
Effective September 7, 2026 · Operated by Ariel Lee · Questions: ariel@libraryscout.app
1. About Library Scout
Library Scout, available at https://libraryscout.app, is operated by Ariel Lee, an individual based in New York, United States ("Library Scout," "we," "us," or "our"). These Terms govern your use of our website and its features, including accounts, saved classes, curated reports, comments, feedback, and weekly curriculum activities (the "Service"). Questions and legal notices may be sent to ariel@libraryscout.app.
By creating an account or submitting content after being presented with these Terms, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not create an account or submit content, and discontinue use of the Service. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information; accepting these Terms does not constitute consent to optional marketing or tracking where separate consent is required.
Library Scout helps people discover public library classes and events. We are independent and are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of the New York Public Library, Brooklyn Public Library, or Queens Public Library.
2. Eligibility and accounts
You must be at least 13 to create an account or submit content. The Service is intended for adults and teenagers, including adults finding programs for children; it is not directed to children under 13. If you are under 18, use the Service only with a parent or legal guardian's permission and supervision, and ask them to review these Terms with you.
Provide an accurate email address that you are authorized to use. Each account is for one person. Keep your password confidential, do not share your account, and promptly contact us if you suspect unauthorized access. You are responsible for your own use of your account; this does not make you responsible for activity caused by our failure to meet obligations imposed by law.
3. Listings, registration, and attendance
We aggregate information from public library event calendars. Listings, descriptions, schedules, availability, age restrictions, accessibility information, and other details may be incomplete, inaccurate, or outdated. Events may change or be canceled without notice to us.
Confirm details and registration requirements on the organizing library's website before attending. Saving a class, marking interest, checking in to a curriculum activity, or downloading a calendar file does not register you, reserve a place, or confirm attendance. Downloaded calendar files may not reflect later changes.
The organizing library controls registration and its events, subject to its own rules and terms. Library Scout does not operate or supervise those events. Our independent activity suggestions are informational; choose activities appropriate for your circumstances and follow venue rules. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded.
4. Free access and donations
The Service is currently free and does not accept payments within the app. If we introduce paid features, we will present their pricing and additional terms before you choose to purchase them.
Contributions through our external Ko-fi page are voluntary support for Ariel Lee's operation of Library Scout. They do not purchase app access, event admission, ownership, or any promised benefit. Library Scout is not presented as a tax-exempt charity, and these contributions are not tax-deductible charitable donations.
Ko-fi and its payment providers process contributions under their own terms. We do not process refunds inside Library Scout. For a refund request or payment problem, contact us and use the applicable Ko-fi or payment-provider process. This provision does not limit rights provided by applicable law. Donations made directly to NYPL through its separate website are governed by NYPL's own terms and disclosures.
5. Acceptable use
You may use the Service for lawful purposes consistent with these Terms. You must not:
- Post unlawful, threatening, harassing, discriminatory, fraudulent, or otherwise abusive content, or content that infringes another person's rights.
- Impersonate someone, misrepresent your affiliation, or publish another person's private information without authorization.
- Submit spam, malicious code, deceptive links, or unsolicited promotions.
- Access accounts or information without permission, bypass passwords or access controls, or interfere with the Service's security or operation.
- Use automated tools to harvest personal information or scrape the Service at a volume that burdens it, bypasses limits, or reproduces substantial portions without permission.
Ordinary search-engine indexing and assistive technologies are not prohibited merely because they operate automatically. Report suspected security issues privately to ariel@libraryscout.app without accessing or exposing other users' information.
6. Your content and shared reports
You retain ownership of content you submit, including report titles and notes, comments, and feedback. You must have the rights needed to submit it and permit the uses described here.
You grant Library Scout a nonexclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to store, host, reproduce, format, and display your content only as reasonably necessary to operate the Service, deliver the sharing features you use, and address support, safety, or legal obligations. This is not a license to sell your content or use it in unrelated advertising. The license ends when the content is removed from our systems, except for reasonably necessary backup or legally retained copies. It does not give us ownership of your work.
Anyone with a shared report's link can view it and post comments without an account. If the owner adds a password, viewers also need that password. Comments, the display name entered by the commenter, and timestamps are visible to the owner and other viewers. A typed display name is not a verified identity. Links and passwords can be forwarded, and viewers can copy or capture content. Do not use shared reports to store confidential or sensitive information.
We may remove or restrict content that violates these Terms, infringes rights, creates a safety risk, or must be removed by law. We do not promise to review every submission before it appears. Report problematic content by emailing us with its location and a description of the issue. Deleting content does not remove copies previously saved by other people or independently held by third parties.
7. Intellectual property and copyright concerns
Our original curriculum writing, site design, branding, and pigeon mascot are owned by Ariel Lee or used with permission, except where otherwise identified. You may browse the Service and use its intended saving, sharing, and calendar features for personal, noncommercial purposes. Other uses of protected material require permission from the relevant rights holder or another lawful basis.
Library listing descriptions, book covers, logos, and other third-party materials remain subject to their respective owners' rights. Displaying them does not transfer ownership to Library Scout or grant you a broader license. Library names identify listing sources and do not imply endorsement.
For a copyright concern, email ariel@libraryscout.app with your contact details, identification of the work, the location of the disputed material, and an explanation of your rights or authority to act. We may request further information and remove or restrict disputed material. We may terminate accounts of repeat infringers in appropriate circumstances. This contact process does not represent that we have registered a designated DMCA agent or qualify for a statutory safe harbor.
8. External services
Links may lead to library websites, Ko-fi, Google Forms, social platforms, or other external services. Their operators control their content, privacy practices, availability, and transactions. Review their terms before using them. Linking to an external service does not mean we endorse everything it offers.
9. Suspension, account removal, and service changes
You may stop using the Service at any time and delete your account from the Profile page. Deletion permanently removes your login, profile, saved classes, preferences, content you posted, your email-subscription record, and your email-provider contact, and removes your account identifier from usage records. This cannot be undone. See the Privacy Policy for details, and contact ariel@libraryscout.app if you believe any personal information remains.
We may suspend or terminate access for a material violation of these Terms, unlawful conduct, security risks, or legal requirements. Where reasonably practicable, we will explain the action and allow you to contact us for review; immediate action may be necessary for safety or security. We may change or discontinue features or the Service. Ending access does not remove any privacy rights you have under applicable law.
10. Disclaimers and limits of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of accuracy, completeness, uninterrupted availability, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or noninfringement. We do not guarantee that the Service will be error-free or that every security risk can be prevented.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Ariel Lee, operating Library Scout, will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from use of or inability to use the Service, including lost profits, lost opportunities, or loss of data.
These exclusions do not apply to fraud, willful misconduct, gross negligence, or any liability or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. Your mandatory consumer and privacy rights remain in effect. No aggregate dollar cap, mandatory arbitration agreement, or class-action waiver is imposed by these Terms.
11. Governing law and disputes
Applicable United States federal law and New York State law govern these Terms, without applying conflict-of-law rules that would select another jurisdiction's law. Subject to any mandatory rights to bring a claim elsewhere, disputes will be heard in state or federal courts located in New York State that have jurisdiction over the dispute. These Terms do not restrict access to an eligible small-claims court or government agency.
You may contact ariel@libraryscout.app to try to resolve an issue informally, but doing so is not a prerequisite to exercising your legal rights.
12. Updates and general provisions
We will post revised Terms with an updated effective date. For material changes, we will provide a prominent notice through the Service and, where appropriate, email affected account holders. Where required, we will obtain renewed agreement before the changes apply. Changes do not apply retroactively to an existing dispute without your agreement.
If a provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue to apply. A delay in enforcing a provision is not a waiver. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination, including ownership, applicable disclaimers, and dispute provisions, survive to the extent permitted by law.
